A Feature — The Engagement Wardrobe Consult
Clothesworthlookingatforthenexttwentyyears.
The engagement shoot is one of the few photographs you'll live with indefinitely. The wardrobe should hold up just as long. A free, one-hour consult — so every man walks into that shoot dressed correctly, in something he'll want to keep.

§ The Work
What this is.
Most men approach an engagement shoot the way they approach a wedding: they rent something, they wear it once, and they give it back. The Columbia of Duluth doesn't do rental. What you wear to your shoot, you own. The wardrobe is yours.
The morning of the shoot is its own thing — the drive up the shore, the light off the water, the temperature dropping as the sun gets low. The clothes have to hold up to all of it, and they have to look right when the frame holds still.
The consult is free. It runs sixty minutes, led by The Columbia of Duluth team. We'll have pulled options before you arrive — based on the intake questions, the shoot location, the season, and what your partner is wearing — so you're not starting from scratch. You'll try things, edit things down, and leave with a clear answer about what works.
We have a fourteen-day return window on undamaged items, which means the arrangement is honest: wear it for the shoot, decide after. Most people keep everything. You're under no obligation to.
§ The Method
How it works.
Book the consult.
Use the link. A short intake form follows — shoot date, location, what your partner is planning to wear. That information determines what we pull. Sixty minutes at 303 W Superior Street.
Come in. Try things.
We pull options ahead of time. You try them, talk through what works, make the call. The session is about your specific shoot — the light on the North Shore, the jacket that reads correctly in an open field, the collar that stays put in wind off the lake.
Wear it. Decide after.
Take everything to the shoot. Fourteen-day returns on undamaged items, no questions asked. If something didn't work on the day, bring it back.
§ After You Book
What happens next.
Within a few minutes of booking you'll get a confirmation — a short note with the consult time, the store address, and the intake form. The form takes about three minutes. It asks the things that matter: the shoot date, the location, the time of day, your sizes, what your partner is wearing.
By the time you walk in, we'll have five to seven options pulled with your specific shoot in mind. We don't want you starting from scratch when you arrive. The shoot date matters. The light matters. What your partner is wearing matters most.
The consult itself runs sixty minutes. We try things, talk about fit, talk about the shoot, and edit down to what works. You leave with a clear answer — and what you decide to take with you, you wear to the shoot. Fourteen days later, anything that didn't work comes back.
The point isn't to sell you the most. The point is to send you to the shoot with the right thing.
“These photographs will hang in your hallway for decades. We take that seriously.”

§ Who It's For
Couples shooting in this region.
Men shooting engagement sessions in Duluth, on the North Shore, on the Iron Range, or anywhere in the surrounding region — couples who want a wardrobe that looks right in the photograph and lasts past it. You don't need to know anything about clothes before you arrive. That's the point of the consult.
§ The Setting
Where you'll shoot.
Duluth and the North Shore are uncommonly good for engagement photography. Tell us where the shoot will be and we'll style for it — the light, the season, the way the place will read in the frame.
Brighton Beach
Late-afternoon light on the rock shelf. The lake working as your backdrop.
Park Point
Open beach, long horizon. A sand-and-water palette that flatters cool tones.
Lester Park
Pine canopy and river light. Layered looks read well in spring and fall.
Glensheen
Formal gardens and the lakeshore behind. A more dressed vocabulary if you want it.
Enger Tower
The city below, woods around. Late-day golden cast on stone.
The Lakewalk
A long line down the shore. A walking-together composition.
